If you sign up using Twitter connected account, the user has to enter an e-mail address.
I think this is because in the past, the Twitter API didn't allow email addresses.
However, this seems to be supported now:
ps: In the XF documentation, the instruction should advise to change the permissions to Read-only. By default this is Read and write which is not needed.
