Too many dormant bot-like accounts

Im getting too many sign-ups from inactive bot accounts with shared IPs.

They are not posting anything to show spammy behavior.

Any idea what the intent here is?

It's a spambot without spammy behavior.
Waiting for the right time to start spamming.

Did you check URL field in their profiles? A bot doesn't need to post spammy links if it can place them on profile pages.

Sometimes they are probes to ascertain how easy it is to bot-register at your forum in preparation for something more insidious.

Sometimes they are just poorly written kiddie scripts.

change your captcha or other login stuff. it needs to be changed from time to time to stop this stuff

I call them "Sleeper cell spammers". They make accounts and then idle for a long time, seemingly for some future purpose.

Most of the regular SEO spammers are easy to spot, and will add a tagline, profile picture, and web address for some website that they are trying to promote. Often they will reply to very old posts, with a nonsense reply.
