To renew or not to renew?

My annual renewals are coming up but it's been silent most of this year from XF. If I don't renew and things come alive later, I assume I can renew at that time and be back on track for upgrades, etc.? I hesitate renewing not knowing the status of this company and product right now.

Opinions?

I don’t see any reason to renew until something genuinely useful is released. As mentioned, it’s been complete silence for quite some time. Many customers have tried to communicate with the XenForo team and received nothing in return - at some point, it may be time to speak with our wallets.

They once insisted on “no roadmaps” to avoid giving competitors an advantage, yet we now have Have You Seen threads that are over a year old, highlighting features that still haven’t materialized.

Don’t renew until there’s a clear benefit for you and your community. The days of supporting a company that shows little respect for its customers are long gone.

I tend to keep my site in support (habit from 26+ years working in IT) but do often hold off renewing until I need it to get an update. So I am due in May next year but if nothing seems imminent whe the time comes, I won't renew right away.

The exception is when one of their occasional sales comes along, usually right before a price hike. Then I renew for at least 2 years.

I would renew if you need ticketed support or if you are feeling altruistic, otherwise there's really nothing to be gained. You may as well hold onto your money until the next update which is probably still many months away.

There is literally no reason to renew until software is released that you are willing to pay for. That scenario is looking less likely by the day.
