AND! It may go some way to cure the dreaded repeat topic syndrome...
One thing is for sure though: Tag clouds are a great way to make a page look cluttered as hell, which is something I think the developers of Xenforo are trying desperately to avoid.
Gosh. That sounds hard. And please provide an importer for existing tagsAnd a way to configure on a per-node basis which tag goes where, preferably in a hierarchical manner (As in Node 1.1.1 will feature tags allowed for 1.1 and 1, unless specifically disabled).
Maybe an option for everyone to prevent him/herself being tagged .....Interesting idea... but you have to be careful this will not feel as annoying to some people. You're basically deciding what Alerts they should receive for content. So core feature? I'm not convinced. But there is something to think about here.
Except 3.2 is almost right near release in some form (betas/previews) where XF isn't in a position just yet to explain how and what form tags may show up, nor is it true to assume they're working on it right now or working on other features that people are waiting for.BTW I asked TPB/XF about when Tags and they gave a very coy answer of "some time in the future".
Just for comparison I asked their true main competitor IPB (or at least one of their main competitors) and immediately received an email saying unequivocally that Tags will be in IPB version 3.2, AND they provided a link to a blog where they are discussing specifically what features they are planning to add and when.
What price loyalty to XF?
Still loyal, for now, but getting antsy about the chronic vagueness when we all have business plans to refine and implement.
