I noticed the thread preview balloon has no background. Can someone please tell me where to edit it and what to change/add.

Need example URL so I can debug it. It looks like you removed a background color that is normally opaque.

This needs a background color:

Admin CP -> Appearance -> Templates -> Building Blocks -> Primary Content

    background-color: #FFFFFF;
}

you can also add this to EXTRA.css template
