The 80's were fantastic. I was 8 when they came in and graduated high school in 1990. So, I went from collecting baseball cards and listening to AM Radio stations to driving and finding my independence along with growing my hair long and going to rock concerts.
Just a wonderful period of time and I don't think there will ever be as much good and diverse music (albeit a lot of one-hit wonders) during that time.

Two words: New Romantics
I loved the whole New Romantic movement .. .but I was never a big Duran Duran fan.. My love and devotion went to Spandau Ballet predominately!
Funny story about Duran Duran, I was at a Stadium concert by Robbie Williams several years ago, and one of the support acts was a very aged Duran Duran LOL... and Simon Le Bon came on to a highly charged (for Robbie Williams) crowd and announced.....
"We're Duran Duran, We're a MotherF****** Rock Band.."
To which I had to almost wee wee myself.. and excuse myself to go get drinks at that point... LOL the irony of a 50 something dude trying to be hip.. and claiming "ROCK" status for what was always a very light weight band had me in total stitches!
Robbie was great though, totally stunned me, I was literally dragged to this concert, and had not been a fan at all prior but he is a real showman I have to say! The first support band Machine Gun Fellatio - awesome!

Another two epic bands from - both cannot be ignored when talking about the 80's.
I was a fan of Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, etc.
But, during the late 80's there was that 'Glam Rock' or 'Hair Band' movement which I enjoyed. So much so that I started a site (and never really finished it) about the time in music. GlamRockTalk

I would have said Glam Rock was a 70's movement, with bands like Status Quo, and David Bowie et al...

I should have left it at 'Hair Band' movement which came from the Glam Rock movement of the late 60's (Iggy/Bowie) to the early 70's. One of the first Glam Rock bands was T.Rex....good stuff.
There was definitely a LOT Of hair in Metal bands in the 80's LOL.. I bet some of those guys wish they still had some of it..
