XF 2.1 Test installation URL

I just tried to install a test installation and got a notice in the ACP that the URL is not the one that the software is licensed to.

I noticed this in the agreement:

You may create additional test installations for the purpose of testing the Software. Any test installation of this kind must be password protected, installed at a URL that makes the testing purpose clear, not used for production purposes and access to it must be limited to You and Your website staff.

So what is meant by installed at a URL that makes the testing purpose clear?

Thanks

The message about the URL not being correct is expected -- it doesn't block anything, so it's more informational. Test installations are allowed, but additional production installs aren't and if your production install isn't running on the licensed URL, then it's important that you're notified to update that (which also helps us when providing support).

There isn't really an official one size fits all approach to what is a URL that makes the testing purpose clear. For example, if you're testing on what is clearly a local domain, that would suffice. But if you installed it on myothersite.com/community that would very much look like a production install (or prep for one). Adding something like "test", "staging", "dev" or the like into the URL makes the purpose clearer. Being on the same domain (or a sub-domain of it) of your production install would also help tie it to what you're testing.
