XF 1.4 Stopping mail to users

If I set a user to receive no site mail does it stop all mail including the general notifications such as alerts or watch-topic replies sent to people?

UPDATE: It seems users don't get mail for alerts anyway unless someone posts in a watched topic.

The site mailings is basically a newsletter-type switch. It doesn't affect other emails.
