XF 1.5 SSL Oddities

#1
So recently I've setup the media proxy on my site, and I've just forced HTTPS via htaccess.

Since doing that, my load times seem to be all over the place, and loading images (mainly the top header and navigation) sometimes just doesn't happen, but the browser still reports it's loading, when inspector says it's doing nothing.

Is there a hidden gremlin that I'm not sure of that needs to be tamed, or should I force HTTPS another way? I'm a bit miffed as to what's causing it.
