Hi,

I'm wanting to buy a good Smartphone // Mobilephone but no idea where to start, I'm from the UK and looking for a good deal?

Any ideas?

Just depends on what you like. You want an iphone or an android? Personally, I prefer the android. Just got this from ATT, mainly because of its 4.5 inch super amOLED Plus screen. It provides a super bright and clear display. I like big real estates on my mobile phone. The camera is not the greatest but not bad either; not to mention the 720p video capability.

Again, it just comes down to what you're looking for.

4.5 inch - Samsung Infuse - nice.
3.5-inch - iphone.

(1) Anyone know an older cheap Android phone ( I can use to test out Android) ?
(2) Anyone know a reasonably priced Smartphone with 60 frames per second video capture ? (for golf swings !).
I see they are coming eventually.

In order of budget:

Samsung Galaxy S 2
Samsung Galaxy S
Orange San Francisco/ZTE Blade

If music playback is a major requirement, you can't go wrong with the Galaxy S phones - they both have audio hardware way beyond any other portable device (much more so with the original Galaxy S however).

The original Galaxy S is a year old now, the Galaxy S 2 is only just out. Both are great phones, but for pretty much everything the Galaxy S 2 comes out on top :)

And that's a pretty good deal, but if you don't need so many minutes you could save a bit and go with Orange's Dolphin 25: http://www.mobiles.co.uk/orange-samsung-i9100-galaxy-s.html

I use the iPhone for about 3 years now, i first had the iphone 3G and now i have the 4G
It has a great design and very easy to use, it has never failed me and the app store is still amazing :)

You have to buy the phone with the packages, one I picked is 32.00 and the phone is free. Think i'll pick the Galaxy S 2 though. it looks like a great phone.

Thanks for all the suggestions all. (y)

PS - Anyone know if the phone company o2 are any good?

It works out over £100 cheaper in total though on Dolphin 25, even including the handset cost.

As long as O2 has a 3G signal in your area (check here), no reason not to go with them - they're a good provider.

entered my postcode it says - "Voice, Text, Email and Data" access but no "Mobile Internet" does that mean I wont be able to connect to the internet with the phone, using my current BT connection or does it mean they (o2) dont provide an internet connection yet?

I want an Android Phone to play with and see how good the apps are.
I did this with an iphone, I bought a Ipod 3 16gig for $200 on kijiji, and I'm going to sell it for $150 in a few weeks.
Is there a cheaper (say $100 or $200) Android I can play with to see if I like the Android apps ?

Then don't go with O2 - that sounds like a 2G connection only. 3G/HSDPA is necessary for using the internet at anything more than dialup speeds when you're not on wifi.

See if Orange fares any better: http://search.orange.co.uk/ouk/portal/coveragechecker.html?channel=direct/

The ZTE Blade/Orange San Francisco is one of the best budget Android phones (main advantage over similarly priced phones being the screen resolution) - you should be able to get it brand new for that kind of money. Make sure you stick a custom ROM on it however, the stock one is awful.

Is this the best ROM ?
[ROM] CyanogenMod-7 for ZTE Blade (Orange San Francisco) :: V7.0.2 (25/04/2011)

Wasn't aware CM7 was available for it - if it's actually stable etc. then yes that would definitely be the best choice of ROM.
