What she said ^^. An alert on XF triggers an alert via IM. Skype is the one I use.

Install the Facebook app in your dreaded iPhone. I hope one day you will get a Palm Pre!
Then, you get alerts on your phone about threads, etc. What can be simpler than this?

Nah, more suited as a plugin. This could get sticky real quick. Next time someone will want to reply via IM.
