Since Brogan's Been Gone...

I have never received a warning and it is because I stay within the rules of the site.

I have chosen to join this website/forum to have support in place for my installations of the xenForo forum software. Which means, that I have to play by their rules. Like it or not, it is not my site and I have to respect the owners/admins/moderators.

I try to stay out of meaningless threads that have no bearing on whether my xenForo installation is working as it should (bug-free). And, those that I do choose to participate in will be done so under the rules of the site.
Meaning or no meaning, I'm just building up my post count. When you post like that your bound to break some rules. That's why you and other members don't have warnings. When I join a forum and I end up liking it, I build up a high post count, just because. Probably 80% random meaningless posts. I must confess that I got it so bad that I try not to post on my own site.

Now there's a novel idea! Imagine how nice this site would be if everyone played by these rules. ;)

Here's the thing
We started out friends
It was cool, but it was all xen (foro)
Yeah, yeah, Brogan been gone
You're dedicated, answered questions all the time
Wasn't long 'til you answered mine
Yeah, yeah, Brogan been gone
And all i'd ever hear you say
Here is the query for you
That's all i'd ever hear you say

But since Brogan been gone
I must code on my own for the first time
I'm so movin' on, yeah yeah
Thanks to you, now I code what I want
Since Brogan been gone

How can I put it, you were always on
Yeah, yeah, Brogan been gone
How come I'd never hear you say
I can't answer that for you
Guess you never felt that way

But since Brogan been gone
I must code on my own for the first time
I'm so movin' on, yeah yeah
Thanks to you, now I code what I want
Since Brogan been gone

I have never loved a post as much as this one since the last time I loved a post his much.

And to stay on topic: I miss Brogan's answers but the current mods are doing just fine.

There lirics are there now a song for it would make it great. Back to topic, I think only one post I've made got deleted and that I requested. Most of us have the feel sometime xenforo.com is a webmaster forum but it's not.

What on earth are you guys saying to get your posts deleted and warnings? o_O
my thoughts exactly

maybe I don't post on here much but I've yet to have a "warning"... I guess post could be deleted and I just didn't notice, but I'm 99% sure none of mine have

seems like this is a troll thread tbh

"hey now that XXX is gone, I haven't been caught being an arse"

anyways.. that's how I read it

What strikes me as interesting in this thread is this: We are all admins of our own sites (or of other people's) so we know just how impossible a job being admin/moderator is in the eyes of our communities. We know that we can never please everyone all of the time and sometimes no matter what we do or say, we will be hated and flamed for deleting or editing posts, or banning and removing users. We all know that moderation is not a popularity contest. We also know, from employing our own moderators, that everyone has a different style and some moderators take some time to "fit in" with the ethos of the community and find that sweet spot between being nice to community members and *****-slapping them for breaking the rules.

Yet some of us have forgotten this in threads such as this one, where we seem to be venting our grief over losing Brogan on the moderating decisions of other mods.

So let's try and give the new mods some space to settle in. Give them a chance to read your feedback and adapt to what's best for all of us here. I don't agree with some of the moderating done since Brogan left, but those moderators do seem open-minded to hear our concerns.

I'd also remind people that this forum is, at its heart, a business forum representing the Xenforo company and brand. It is up to them to set the rules here and define what is and is not acceptable. Just because we are all forum admins ourselves gives us no rights to try and bend the rules here.

and many didn't agree with the moderating that Brogan did. Soooooo whatcha gonna do?
No matter who the moderator is, their moderating style is not going to be popular, because let's face it - no one likes to be moderated, no matter what it is, from closing a thread, to deleting a post, to removing a link from a post, to a warning in a thread to "keep it civil" and so on. Heh, when I was a moderator here, a simple warning in a thread to "keep it on topic" would get my head chopped off.

Moderators are never popular. It's that simple.

maybe I don't post on here much but I've yet to have a "warning"...

Try harder...

Everytime I see this thread title is think of the song:

Belinda Carlisle - Band of Gold.

Since you've been gone ...
Update: Lyrics (mildy depressing)

My friend got me into Belinda Carlisle. And I do remember liking her.
I'm pretty sure I was the only person ever to have Belinda Carlisle and Iron Maiden on the same mixed tape.
I'm just saying.

While on this topic, I think Brogan did an admirable job of managing some "tough situations" brought on by people higher up the Xenforo chain than himself. I also think time will reveal more about Brogan's departure.

So in tribute to Brogan please enjoy the cute Belinda ...

LOL Dig... My thoughts exactly. See my above post. Oh my friend... Michael Jackson and GNR... < on my pod. So yeah, I think you win that award with BC and IM on yours!
