Because it is a free download and they want some advertising in return. Most freeware includes some sort of advertising and browser hijacking (e.g. default search provider with affiliate links etc). It's not going to go away, and just be happy it is relatively easy to uncheck.
 
In short: If you still put java applets on your site, you're a nutcase. There's simply no need to use Java anymore. It solds a problem that does not exist.
 
If you use Eclipe and its variants or other java based software, you'll have issues. But for the most part, it's useless and a security risk. Read about half of today's computer ailments are a result of java exploits.
