I hope someone can help me, I edited httpd.conf to 'Redirect Permanent / https://www.mcplex.co.uk' and the redirect works correctly the url changes to 'https://www.mcplex.co.uk' and i have edited the .httaccess file.. but still the website is not displaying?

I haven't added any certificates to the server as of yet.

    any ideas??

    Thank you.

I think you answered your own question

You need to configure your apache or nginx to listen on port 443 for your domain, with secure set as on. As it appears right now, your web server is only listening for regular, not https connections. After that you need to install the certificate.

The .htaccess step is usually the last step to do, first you have it running as both 80 and 443, then you switch it to redirect to https always

ah I see thank you. I have also added 'Listen 443' to Apache now so will the site be completely inaccessible until I have installed the SSL Certs?
