XF 1.4 Running a test copy of XF

Hi all,

I've just (finally!) gotten around to buying a xenforo license and i'm looking forward to getting stuck in.

Before I start to use it in earnest I want to get a test copy on to my VPS and do some prep and setup work, this will include ensuring I can import a database etc.

This won't be visible to the general public or anything, but as it's not going to be under the domain that my license is associated with, am I likely to have problems?

You are permitted one production installation and one test installation.

The test installation must be password protected and limited to your site staff only.

Hi. I just bought a license. I'm confused as to how do you want the site password protected? Also, do I need to register the test domain anywhere in my account? Thanks.

You can use .htaccess to password protect it - copy the instructions here but apply it to the directory where the test installation is located instead: Protecting admin.php and the install directory using .htaccess

There's no need to register the test install details anywhere.
