Resources and load (currently on IP.Board)

Hello. Currently we use IP.Board, IP.Blog, and IP.Content (to a lesser extent). The blog feature is very important to our members, but, we're willing to ditch it (unfortunately) in order to move to XenForo if it is a viable option.

What is the server load of XenForo? Currently, we're using a VPS with 3gb ram, 4 cores, and 120gb bandwidth. Our database is about 1.5gb, we have roughly 500k posts and 25k members. We normally have 200 people online at any given time. Our VPS is at its knees, and we cannot find anything to offer better upgrades to us and we're trying to go dedicated, but, it's tough because of the cost and we don't run ads and we're a group of role-players.

Is XenForo equal to or less than IP.Board's server use. Is there a decent way to test XenForo to see if it is a viable option for us. Does anyone have any experience with this? Also, hosting recommendations?

Thank you you two. :). We're really liking the system and the speed of the demo. Problem is now finding the perfect host! :(

We also now have the funding for the license.

Current rough usage on IP.Board
- 3GB ram
- 4 Cores
- 500mb diskspace
- sql size around 2gb
- 120gb bandwidth usage
- Average of 180 people online. We've spiked up to 250 very recently.

A linode 1024 would be good for you. http://www.linode.com/

Or a 1+1 XL virtual server. http://www.1and1.com/VirtualServerX...s&linkId=ct.btn.more.virtual.xl&ordernow=true

Both require you to have a capable level of root server knowledge though. 1+1 slightly less so.

Alternatively look to add a little monetisation to your site and go for a small dedi, or do a dedi-share.
Thank you. Wo9uld that linode be able to run what we currently using and some growth without problems?

We're looking into finally adding ads to our website.
I think Shamil uses the same ISP that I do - very good internet provider (USA) - and Shamil specializes in XF.....

Look up his member name here and send him a PM:

Their live chat link 404's for me. And, I like the idea of specialization in XF.

Edit: When we buy the license can more than one person use the forums off of the license? We have three administrators.

Thank you Corey.

We're still taking hosting suggestions. The ThirdParty forums are interesting, but, many seem inactive. One suggested above has broken things on their website which shakes my confidence.

If you are still looking for hosting, I recommend heading over to WebHostingTalk and checking out the offers and reviews there (http://www.webhostingtalk.com). I've found it to be pretty reliable in terms of finding out the good and bad aspects of various hosts, and posting there can net you special offers from hosts wanting your business. However, trying to find the "best" offer on there can be a bit of a time sink, so for someone on a time crunch it may not be an option, but still could be worth checking out.

Once you get going, I'd be interested in seeing what the performance differences are between xF and IPB if you have the chance to post that.
