XF 2.1 Remove usergroup on user promotion or upgrade

I'm not optimistic about there being a solution but you never know.

I want a promotion or upgrade that will remove a secondary usergroup. perhaps there is a way or an addon?

"Why?" I hear you ask.

I have an addon that allows me to restrict the attachment per message quota. It can only reduce from the default.

So I configure in options the global quota at 10, but then everyone has a usergroup that reduces this to 5. But I want a paid upgrade that lifts the restriction.

Maybe somebody knows some other clever way round this?

Use the 'is not a member of' criterion coupled with a promotion.

But everyone by default is a member of that group. How will a promotion remove that group?

You will need to change the approach.

Remove the permissions from the default user group.

Create the promotion using the 'is not a member of' criterion.

Could you explain a bit more as i am having trouble trying to get length of time registered as a group promotion.
