Registration off because of spam. Solution ?

I have to disable user registrations because I am getting hundreds of new users daily to post spam.

There are a lot of problems with spam and that needs to be fixed asap.

1- I cant delete 150 users, I have to go one by one and that is not funny at all.
So before I noticed the forum was being under a spam attack, hundreds of users registered, now go and delete one by one, guessing who is who... Pretty bad.

2- If a user register and does not activate by mail the account, the user stays there, I need to be able to see all the users that did not activate the account, to delete them how ?
I don't want to have 4800 users that will never activate the account because they are robots, whats the solution for this ?

3- What is a good solution for spam users, I can't have registrations active, I have captcha, activation by mail, etc... And the spammers are there, posting none stop.

So, I can't use my forum, just the registered users can until I find a solution.

Its a real pain having to deal with this, it started 3 days ago and it seems its not going to stop, having registrations disabled its just hurting my sited, XF should add something else to prevent this.

Xenutils is free, and so are several other resources Jake mentions in the dealing with spam resource Chris listed. If you want core, drop re:captcha and do Q&A, and rotate the questions every once in a while.

I use keycaptcha and sonnb's spam mod and we haven't had a spam post since.

I've blocked about 1500 attempts though

That will ban myself, so its not an option. A lot of people use gmail and hotmail.

Pretty naive. That would maybe stop 90% of genuine members getting through so it fails at that step plus it would probably only prevent 50% of spam registrations because many now do not use free mail services.

That will ban myself, so its not an option. A lot of people use gmail and hotmail.

I've been using it for several weeks, with only StopSpamHere API and Akismet. It has stopped almost every registrations. I assume it could have stopped the few remaining ones (3 in a month time) with the other additional APIs available but I'm keeping things simple. It's the same as XenUtiles, except sonnb regularly supports its addons. If you don't want to pay and don't care about support, then the free XenUtiles addon is what you need.
