XF 1.5 Registration Emails Seem Slow

They seem to be taking over an hour when I'd prefer they be as close to instantaneous as possible. I'm totally new to this stuff so I need to ask: how can I optimize this process so that the emails go out sooner?

If you are using the default PHP method, you can check where the delay is by creating a test account and checking the mail log on the server.

My guess is it's between the server sending it and the recipient receiving it, as there is unlikely to be any delay from XF's side of things.
