Redirects no expiring?

This might be a case of misunderstanding on my part (or I've got somethings screwed up somewhere)...

When moving a thread I almost always let it use the default option of having a 1 day expiring redirect. I am interpreting this to mean that the link to the redirected thread in the old forum will go away after 24 hours leaving only the copy of the thread in the new forum.

However, I'm not seeing the redirect links in the old forums going away.

Possible problem or misunderstanding?

The redirect links do disappear after 24 hours (assuming of course you choose 1 day).

I've done hundreds of them here and on my site and they always have.

Just one, my smiley creator (which shouldn't be having any affect). Do they disappear via a scheduled task?
