Re-run importer to grab new posts

Thought I'd create a new thread for a different question.

I'm thinking of setting up xenForo in a new directory while my current forum continues to grow in it's usual place.

Is it possible to import all my data, get xenForo setup how I like, then run the importer again just before the switch to grab any new posts?

    Thanks

I don't think it does incremental imports, you will have to import the data all at once, or start over. I think you can still set up your board, install mods etc, and then do the import off a configured, but empty forum.

OK, not a massive problem. I can just take my board offline while we make the switch.

    Cheers for the reply, Magnus.

You should import into a new installation of XF. Use your test forum as a point of reference in manually applying any custom development to the final import, as opposed to building onto your test forum and taking it live. There is no easy way to deal with the duplicate content if you import again into the same forum.

With that said, it has been done:

But it's a dirty thing to do and may cause problems later.

OK, thanks Jake. Makes sense, I want a nice clean import after all!

I am proof of the problems it can cause. I live with it though...
