My daughter's meltdowns are becoming worse and more frequent.... but according to the paediatric asshat it's only "mixed specific learning difficulties" and she doesn't need extra help. . . . Dr Halfwit, may your next **** be a hedgehog.

Sounds stressful. Any chance you can get her referred to a better paediatric asshat?

Unfortunately he's head of the department, so no one will go against him. And if I went private, a lot of the time that diagnosis is thrown out because the "powers that be" say the private doctor is saying what you want them to say because you're paying them too.

It's a long, stressful, tiring process... two years in and he's now gone from saying she simply has a low IQ (she passed the IQ tests fine) to Mixed Specific Learning Difficulties which, if you research it, means autism. He's well know for refusing to diagnose autism because his own son is high on the autism spectrum and anyone who doesn't match his level doesn't get the diagnosis. We have the schools, school nurse and a Family Unit Worker (not a social worker, it's more specific) fighting her corner so we might get somewhere someday.. but yeah, in the meantime it's very stressful and school morning meltdowns because you touched her ear or one of her siblings looked at her in the wrong way just set my mood for the day.

Between a rock and a hard place - yikes - sorry to hear that; would having a confirmed diagnosis of autism make a difference to the care / services / management that is made available to you - in other words, would it open doors to more specialist help that you need? If so, let's hope you get it sooner than later.

Getting a formal diagnosis makes a huge difference. It means she gets more specialised help at school. She's about to move to junior school (she doesn't handle change well) so with the diagnosis we could have got more help with the transition. Luckily we have a good group of people helping her, the guy who does one-on-one time once a fortnight with her (she's entitled to 2 hours a week without a diagnosis) has said he'll go through the transition with her - take her to her new school, stay with her on the transition days so there's a familiar face there while she settles in and will continue his sessions with her throughout her school life. With the diagnosis, schools could apply for more specialised help for her, longer one-on-one sessions, and funding. We could also get some funding toward the cost of things like mattresses, mattress covers (she's almost 8 and still in nappies at night) and other stuff that might aid her in the home.

If only :) the thought is appreciated though.

Of course, if we were unemployed and claiming benefits we'd be getting a lot of this help already without having to jump through most of these hoops.

I love how Gog manages to update those old games so they run on modern hardware & operating systems..

Now if I can only get them to offer my favorite game, Black & White, so I can play it on Windows 8... I'll be golden.
Black & White (and Black & White 2) were both pretty cool in their own way, although I've always felt they didn't make the most of it. It could've been so much more, really. That said, I do really love the DRM free rule gog has, which is beyond amazing.

I still have one in my Steam inventory if you want it there instead.
Nah, I'm okay with this, but thank you for the offer.

@Azhria Lilu You have my deepest sympathies - I have two siblings on the autistic spectrum and getting them the help they need has been insanely difficult. After several years of struggling against useless doctors, teachers and support staff, and after fighting a tribunal against the local educational authority, they've both been diagnosed properly and now they go to a specialised autism school. Keep fighting! There is help available, it's just that the powers that be don't like you getting to it :coffee:

Thanks @Teapot , we are lucky in that the schools are on our side and are also fighting to get her the help she needs. It's very frustrating, but we'll keep on plodding onwards and hopefully get somewhere before her education suffers too much.

Inaccurate description, it is Likes You've Received, and I have learned never to assume when dealing with troubleshooting on here.

In the warrior's code, there's no surrender.
Though his body says stop, his spirit cries - never!
Deep in our soul a quiet ember, know it's you against you.
It's the paradox, that drives us on it's a battle of wills..
In the heat of attack, it's the passion that kills!
The victory is yours alone, in the burning heart..
