The study included 8 people who had never smoked and 24 smokers, 11 with normal lung function and 13 people with either chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or asthma.

Each person used an electronic cigarette for 10 minutes. The researchers then measured their airway resistance using a number of tests, including a spirometry test.

The results showed that for all people included in the study, the e-cigarette caused an immediate increase in airway resistance, lasting for 10 minutes. In healthy subjects (never smokers) there was a statistically significant increase in airway resistance from a mean average of 182 per cent to 206 per cent.

The result was presented at the European Respiratory Society's Annual Congress in Vienna.

Really weak study. [ Sponsored by Big Tobacco ? ]
This is of such poor quality it clearly shouldn't be a News Story.
No comparison to cigarettes ? No comparison to placebo ?

As well, a temporary (10 min), small (10 %) increase in airway resistance is probably of little long term consequence. Not to mention the e-cigs had no deleterious effects on the smoker with health problems. So this article should say, "e-cigs are good for experienced smokers".

If you're going to start with an e-cig, don't get the "cig-a-likes" as most of them are crap and don't last.

A good starter kit would be an eGo type battery with a good clearomizer. Something like this:

That's an eGo C-Twist with Protank clearomizer (bottom coil). You can pick up 2 batteries and the tank for well under 60 bucks. All you need to do then is find your favorite juice to vape.

If you are going to try and quick smoking, you should also try to loose weight as nicotine is generally stored in the fat cells. even if you are moderately fit, when your body burns the fat cell with the stored nicotine - it will release that nicotine back into your blood stream giving you that 'urge' to smoke one.
wtf... wow
