Promoted Content [Paid] [Deleted]

Should I be expecting an email with the update in? Not had it yet :-)

Now I've updated the Widget Framework we have this working, I just have a couple of questions.

1) I assume I can style the post widget how I want and this is just by editing the template, right?
2) It'd be REALLY useful to have a list of promoted threads.
3) When you demote something, the thread tool still says Promote (and then leaves it to the popup to clarify that you're actually demoting). Changing that to Demote thread would be useful if possible.

You should have gotten an email. if you didn't try using the link from the old one.

1) Yes you can edit the template.
2) I plan to in the very near future make an admin page that shows all promoted content.
3) I will try and implement this for the next update.

Hi. Can you please add the feature to assign content per indivual widget?

For instance, I want to put a separate block on the blog index. I'll pay for its development

Being able to put a promoted content on a page and put content in that block that's specifically about that page would be awesome beyond belief. I've done something like this before back when I used to use a free version of nivvo slider on wordpress.

It's something I've asked @Jaxel to make for Xenporta in the past but he never got around to it.

The only way we can do something like this currently is through notices, problem is we can't configure the position of notices.

How can I get the image to fill out the entire area? No matter what I have done, I have one tiny image, one normal, one so-so.

If I do it by height, it looks good.. except the block is as long as the longest image. I only want it a certain height. When I change the css, then the overlay of text is all messed up.

If I do width, it shrinks one so small I cannot see it, the others look decent... Can it not be set to fill in the entire container?

To me, it seems like the "Max-Heigh" option (first one), is not being recognized. No matter what I set that number to, the block is still longer than that. I even tried putting 20 in it...

If I understand you correctly this would be excellent.

In our case we have a thread for a soccer match each we and so each week we'd promote that one thread and that goes into the widget for "This week's match".

In theory I could now add a second widget for a completely different reason but any promoted threads would all end up in there AND in the "this week's match" widget.

If it were possible to send a promoted thread to a specific single widget (which i think is what your suggestion is) then we'd happily chip in for the development.

So rather than "promote thread', we'd need 'promote to widget:" and then have a dropdown selection of available widgets using the promoted post renderer.

Yep this is basically what I asked for. You see this @Daniel Hood That's two of us who really need this feature!

Until this is addressed, I'd resize the pic to a certain width and height and then upload the attachment. After you promote them, all the images will then fit in the slider.

That would make this extremely powerful as you could then basically have any post appear anywhere you wanted. You could have individual announcement widgets, widgets in different sections like SportsBooks, XMG, etc containing instructions/rules, etc whose contents could be edited by anyone with permission without requiring admin editing of templates.

No idea how much effort that'd be but I imagine a lot as you'd need to properly track which threads were promoted to which widgets in the ACP.

Yep!!! He's got experience in configuring threads to assign in ACP with his Announcements addon so I know he can do it.

I don't think this does anything. No matter what setting I use, on the sidebar, nothing changes.

I'm not entirely sure why this isn't working for you, I 'played' with the height setting and it worked fine on mine. Did you disable adaptive height? If you did then the div should be that height. Wait, is that what is happening and the image just isn't expanding to the height? Try adjusting the image to have style='height:100%;'. I think it might be setting the container height and not the image height at all. I might just be confused, could I see a screenshot (or even a live version) of what you're referring to?

We talked about this in a private conversation a little bit. It'll require some work but this should definitely be do-able.

Sorry to truncate your post, it seemed to be the same as the above post though with the exception of this line. I don't think he's suggesting promoting a thread/content type to a specific widget but instead having a setting that only shows content relevant to the page their viewing. For instance if they're in node 5, it'd only display content from node 5. If they're viewing blogs, only blogs would be shown, and on the main forum index all content would be shown.

I could be wrong.

Sorry if I'm way off base with any of you, I've had a really long day. I also apologize for the lack of timely responses.

I'm sorry if I overlooked it, but is there a readme file? I'm not sure where to upload/install the files...

EDIT: I figured it out but a read me would help ;)

Thanks for this addon!

I've found a bug, the slider only works for me after changing something. In the template "xm_promotedContent_widget_slider" on line two you have to change

Code:
<xen:require js="/js/XMPromotedContent/jquery.bxslider.min.js" />

to

Code:
<xen:require js="js/XMPromotedContent/jquery.bxslider.min.js" />

Also the control arrows are not displayed. The Promoted Content - Post only works when only one thread is promoted. After choose an other one the widget just flickers without showing any content.

promoted Content Post.webp
A few suggestions:
  • choose different content for the slider and the list
  • manually set URL (I would like to link in the slider to other pages)
  • Show the Promoted Content - List with formatting, so that this can be used for news items
