Currently, mousing over a thread title gives a preview of the post contents -- unless that's disabled, in which case it's disabled for all.
May I suggest a new per-user option? When you mouse over to your user name on the upper right, you get a list of about 20 choices. When you click on Preferences, you get a menu of 18 selections. You could add a new selection, Display preview when browsing threads, that would be effective for that user only.
