As designed "Post new profile posts" feature not working for "Unregistered / Unconfirmed" users

Hello,

I am trying to give non-registered users permission to post new profile posts in XF 1.4.2.

However, when I go to the "Unregistered / Unconfirmed" user group and set the "Post new profile posts" and "Comment on profile posts:" features to "Allow", nothing happens. The "Write something..." text box that is supposed to show up in user profiles does not show up for unregistered users, so this seems to be a bug.

Please advise.

Profile posts cannot be created by guests, only registered members.

Yes. It is deliberately coded so that guests can't. You have to be a registered user AND have the permission.

Then why is it a User Permission of that group? That doesn't sound intuitive. The Admin should be able to decide what Permissions to grant based on those available. Why was it hard-coded this way? Thanks.

That user group applies to unconfirmed accounts too.

Certain functionality such as voting on polls, liking content, etc. is not available to unregistered users.
