XF 2.2 Please explain a paused question

When I ask a question i can choose for it to be paused and I see this:

Voting will not be allowed and a solution cannot be selected, but existing values will be displayed.

But what does this actually mean?
What values are displayed?
Can I unpause it?
Can I pause an existing question?

I can't find anything in the manual to answer these questions.

Thanks

Yes it can be unpaused:

It doesn't feel like it needs a manual page. It says what it does right there. Voting is not allowed. Solution cannot be selected.

Existing values pertain to the votes that have already been given. So if my answers had been upvoted, they'd still be displayed. But the votes couldn't be removed and new ones couldn't be added.

Very rare for anything to be completely irreversible (certainly without a warning) so that single sentence there should cover it.

Of course, my bad. They're moderator options. They require the "manage any thread" permission.
Ok, thanks, so this is part of what has been confusing me. I would certainly recommend putting this in the manual. But maybe I need to suggest that people could pause their own questions
