That's nothing xf did. it's how HTML handles input type=url

That is correct.

But on the flip side, I think the DataWriter could at least return a better explanation of the format expected in that field.

Didn't look at the message delivered by the datawriter (was on my phone). I'm a little surprised it makes it to the datawriter since the form shouldn't even be capable of getting submitted by the html constraints. I guess it's the validation.

I agree, that is worth fixing/adjusting.

While tweaking the Home Page ... consider making it easy to have the Home Page optional (admin setting).
