XF 2.0 Permissions re: thread editing

I am looking at node permissions:

1513706518329.webp

The idea is that I want only a single node where users can edit the thread. In other words, they would have the ability (in XF2) to add/edit information in their custom thread fields in addition to editing the thread title.

Aside from the time limit (which would be unlimited), would setting "Edit own post" and "Edit own thread title" enable the permission I am looking for? And am I safe in guessing that the stick/unstick and lock/unlock would still be limited to moderators?

I will test this privately, but just want to be certain that users don't find some way to get around the restrictions that I am not seeing here.

Is it possible to have just one THREAD that you can edit without a limit?

Our members track their ski days all season and update after each time they ski.

I like the limit but not on one thread.

Thanks. It's what I figured.

Have to decide if ski day tracking is worth it's own forum or if our main forum should have no limit.

The season can go as long as 8 months, I guess I could make that the limit.

I had exactly the same situation in that I didn't want to clutter the forum list with yet another forum for just one thread.

I found a workaround which was:
  • Create a subforum for that one thread (with specific permissions I wanted for that thread)
  • Make the subforum not visible in the forum list
  • Move the thread into that subforum, but with a permanent redirect.
This way the thread title (redirect) reamins in the orfiginal forum, but when people go to it they have the permissions from the subforum. The expereinece for the user is more or less the same as if that one thread was still on the main forum, but with permissions. The only difference the user might notice being the extra subforum link in the breadcrumb - otherwise it achieves the different permissions for that thread while still visibly remaining in the main forum via the redirect.

The subforum thing I think will work. I just didn't want a top level forum for 1 thread per year.

Our original (non-XF) forum is ten years old, I'll bring in the 10 threads to get it going.

Thank you, for your thinking.
