XF 1.5 Permissions - I thought i understood them

I cannot understand why the final value is no, I thought the allow would override a not set.

Actually, they shouldn't display in that case, though I swore I saw that once.

Based on the screenshot, I believe that should be yes. It's possible there's a permission corruption issue somewhere (can be caused by some add-ons). Try running the user cache rebuild and if that doesn't sort it, go to the upgrader to rebuild the master data.

No luck with that

Same happens with addons disabled.

I've seen this happen before when a user's primary group is not the registered group and no secondary groups are added to the account.

Not saying that's the case here, but I have seen it.

Will do, I've set up a duplicate on a test forum so you can mess around as much as you like with it.

This was down to some internal permission dependencies (which isn't really exposed in the UI). For example, to upload attachments, you need to be able to view attachments.
