XF 1.3 Path to Images - default avatars

I understand the usual method for changing the default avatars is to place your new images in the default locations. This gets overwritten at time of upgrade and thus has to be done again (and again).

If we could modify this path: /styles/default/xenforo/avatars, then pointing to new default avatars would be easy. The only path I see in style properties is styles/default which will affect all images.

Is there a method of changing styles/default to change only default avatars?

No, you can't change just the avatar path.

You should always change the default image path in style properties for your custom style.

If I create a new location, does it require all the same image files that were in styles/default? The process would be to copy all styles/default content into the new location and then modify as needed? I'm assuming that XF will need to look for all of these files at one time or another.

Yes, you would need to copy them from the default directory to your custom directory.

The benefit in doing so is any custom images will never be overwritten when upgrading.

Thanks. Avoiding the upgrade overwriting is best.
