XF 2.1 [Outdated Templates] Parent Template Version Not Found?

When attempting to merge some templates, I get the following error:

Appearance -> Outdated Templates

Oops! We ran into some problems.

No previous version of the parent could be found. Merging is not possible.

I know the template does in fact need merging because since I updated XF, the forum part it styles is misaligned. How can I resolve this error to do the merge?

Now that I mention it, I can't seem to find the edit history on any of my templates. Where did this go? I can't locate it for templates that are able to merge either.
