XF 2.1 Optional fields on registration form

I want to make a field optional, e.g. Location. But if I untick Require location in registration options, the field doesn't show at all on the form.

So I want it to show, but without being required.

How do I do that please?

Disable the core field and create a custom profile field.

Thanks but, I don't want a custom field, it would be confusing as so many users have the default field already.. I just want that same field in registration, but optional
