option for thumbnails viewed to mark items as read

I'd like an option for xfmg to mark the gallery items as "read" (for badging) when the thumbnail is viewed -- and I'd like it to respect it even if the thumbnail was viewed in a forum thread (in cases where attachments are shared to xfmg categories).
