Not to go off-topic, but this is the off-topic area (dependence on 3rd party to do basic stuff)

But doesn't every forum have some activity compared to its heyday? ;) Most forum have declined in activity.
Yes. The Facebook group for the niche is relatively active. I theorize that'll I'll be able to pull in at least 10 or so active members from there to get the ball rolling.

I'm adding some really cool features that the niche will like that aren't available on the other site or Facebook group. (Basically a full database of things in the niche using @Bob 's IMS)

We'll see if I'm successful. It's been ages since I launched a new forum.

Best of luck my friend, I'm excited to see what you've come up with! Any add on by @Bob is money well spent.

@aussiefooty you have 4 members registered in your forum, how can you think that the things that interest your 3 members (since you are a user) are the same as in a forum that has thousands of members?
A forum is not a blog and is opened to have many subscribers and above all many active users (otherwise a blog is opened) therefore it must be structured with a view to managing many users and since a forum with many users also has costs not indifferent, it is important that you have options to monetize the forum.
A good option to monetize a forum is to be able to allow users to pay to access certain areas and this is one of the many fundamental options for a forum for which you don't have to rely on third-party mods that overnight can be abandoned.
Of course, with 4 users you are not interested in charging to use your forum, also because no one would pay.
If a forum has 10,000 subscribers and wants to put paid options, most likely it can find users willing to pay so if you don't care about this, it doesn't mean that it shouldn't interest the other admins.

Because i choose to be democratic and ask them what they would like.
I'd still ask. Why? It's the right thing to do.
only dictators do everything themselves

But it's not a question of being democratic...
If you have many users it means you have a forum that many users are interested in and therefore some of them will be interested in paying for premium stuff.
If a forum has few users, finding who pays is almost impossible...

Well to be fair I completely agree. Without pleasing your members you'd be talking to yourself!

So what do you do in the event of a tied vote? 2-2? Or does your vote count for 2 thus creating a majority?

They let me do what i wish to do.
If it is a style that's being added I usually give 3 options of colours and the most votes gets it.

The thing is that you insist your opinion (which you are allowed to have) to others. In many of your posts it’s like your opinion matters and none others do. While clearly your forum isn’t even worth mentioning with 4 members. So respect others their opinion who clearly have more experience than you do.

And when people tell you so, you’re annoyed when they tell you the truth.

When i've been running forums of my own for 20 years i know what i'm doing. I don't need the condescending advice thanks.

@aussiefooty could you show us your forums that you have been running for 20 years?
Odds are it's similar to my "running forums for over a decade"... only thing is they have been in different niches... but once more, I'm not one that is fixated on numbers of registered users like some are.
Some folks get a massive woody based upon number of "members" (and fixate on that).. then others actually realize the important aspect of the site is actual number of visits and how their content is being distributed to others.

a forum opens up to have users join, the forum is designed for that! if you don't want users, start a blog!
if no users are registered in a forum it means that it is not an interesting forum.
the end

Pushing opinion as fact. The end.
