Ninjapost Forum Software

Well-known member
This is the forum software I almost converted my vBulletin 4 site too before I started to really learn more about Xenforo. It's very very fast and has the live topics type feature that some of us miss from vb http://www.ninjapost.com/

It's expensive though but Mike would've given me a discount back then if I kept the Ninjapost forum I bought since I had put a lotta effort into it and practically begged members from my vb4 site to post on it. The main thing I didn't like was I had no access to the server since it was on the cloud and had to depend on him to do any major changes to the site. I'm very independent-minded so that didn't sit too well with me. At least it came with facebook, twitter and google sign in right out the box and you could see who was posting in a thread in real-time. Very cool. Plus it looks and functions better than vb5 lmaoooooooooooo (that was the real purpose of this thread).

I dunno, looks too simple for my tastes. I laughed at the cleverness of the whole operation - the account levels - white and black belts. #@^&ing hilarious, and clever.

I loooove the way new posts automatically appear at the bottom of a thread like real time chat. Any chance that could be implement for XF?

It's a tag based community (no forums).
Interesting tag page.

Looks like that site uses Wordpress as a Portal.

When I click on a tag: Teen
http://forum.simplyshredded.com/tag/teen
It gives me a list of useless thread titles.
Can't they add the first two lines of the thread ?

The nested quotes work but are awkward looking (might just be this site).
I tried to link to the nested quote example, but it appears you can't link to specific posts.

Running a Tag board like this would be hugely labour-intensive as members will do a terrible job of the Tagging.

There are a number of awkward workflow problems.

This fails like most forum software, with some unique strengths and weaknesses.

I'll look at it more when I have time.

How much do you pay for hosting + the software/updates/modifications yearly?

That's not bad since it covers both hosting, your domain and the software itself.

Not close to $330 for me.

And I don't think adding modifications really counts.

So you can't host the forum software yourself? All managed? Not sure I like that, especially since this seems to be a one-man operation. Also, unlimited traffic seems unrealistic. If a big board approached them they'd be able to a host a site that costs $600/month for $70/month?

For those interested in pitching in for a live updating threads (like from VB) should contact me, JABRONI, or sonnb.

JABRONI and I are contributing towards this XF add-on already and sonnb should be working on it soon.

Sorry for the hijack 8thos

lol but the layout immediately reminds me of bbpress :)

Interesting. I may have to take a look at this. I worry about the speed and ability to keep up with a big board, but it's worth a look.

I'm keeping my XF, but you never know when you'll need to move. I thought I would be with vB forever at one point.

You might be a future vB customer again.
I heard vB6 planning is in the works.
Apparently they are going to tighten up the code (not a re-write) but with the stated goal: including the ability to actually deploy the new software on the internet. YMMV.

The only thing I like about it are the navigation buttons. :)
Check this out. It looks like he has subforums that are featured as tags or something.
Whoa! I thought those tags were just tags directing to the posts themselves...?

EDIT: Yep, it is. But the thread listing looks like a subforum. Neaty.

I like how the "x1000" represent the amount of threads there are for the keyword. :)

I'm not sure. Haven't studied it enough. I will join the site and browse around. I'll ask Mike.
