Newsletters

Hey guys, just out of curiousity - how do you guys deal with your mailing lists with mailchimp and the like? - do you add all of your users to mailchimp or do you just ask them to join the mailing list? i have done the asking thing and it didn't really get too many signups and certainly i would like to update more people about what we are doing.

It would be interesting to see how you guys manage this stuff

I include a link for newsletter signup in the registration email. I also have a sign up form on the site.

I have a 15k member vb forum and the newsletter is a pain. I presently use campaigner as they allow you to add members without going through a double opt in. But the best email open rate is only 50% so a lot of mail ends up in members junk folders.
I have a much smaller xF forum with just 200 members and was thinking of using the built in xF email to send an HTML newsletter. Is anyone using it this way?
