XF 1.2 NEWB: How To Add Users to Custom UserGroup?

Looking for newb help. Guides are too complicated, googled for 30 minutes trying to find the answer.

I made a usergroup: http://grab.by/qgEw

TO see this private node: http://grab.by/qgEC

Set the node to be private and only viewable by members of that group: http://grab.by/qgEE

Can't figure out how to add users to that usergroup.

Tried clicking on users > user group promotions http://grab.by/qgEM

Tried setting a promotion but get this error: http://grab.by/qgES

Stuck here ... can someone help me?

As for the user group promotion error, you haven't specified criteria. As for the private node, you shouldn't make it private. You should just revoke permissions for all user groups (view Node) and allow it on your new group.

To add members to that group, you just need to search for them in the control panel. You can control the groups (notably, adding secondary groups) via their profile page.

I don't want it to be able to be indexed by google - will doing like you suggest prevent it from being indexed by google? Or would it be better to make it private?

If google (Unregistered) group doesn't have permissions to view the node, it will see that the node exists, but won't actually be able to load anything within the node.
