XF 1.5 new sidebar widget

I need a place a new sidebar widget in the index but outside of the maincontent or page container such that I'll have 3 columns. The new sidebar widget will be placed on the left, maincontent in the center and the built in sidebar on the right.

What template code and styling can I use to make this work.

I want to be able to use the new sidebar widget in the index page and maybe few other pages too.
