A friend who goes by the username Jaws or Jaws43cant get registered as his username isnt being accepted.

Hmmm... I think the member in question was filling the form in wrong... for some reason I thought I had seen somewhere that usernames will get blocked if they are regular spammers usernames... no idea where that idea came from.
That is a feature of an add-on (XenUtils which includes StopForumSpam integration) and an announced feature of 1.2 (StopForumSpam).
So, you may have that add-on already...
Alternatively, you can disallow specific usernames in the Admin CP. Other than that, he's probably doing it wrong.
