I am talking about something like a "Share"-feature.

So literally sending specific parts of content to external friends which are not yet registered members on your forum.

Just a form of users spreading the word about your Forum.

How do you expect people to use something when it's hard to find?

Any tool that helps "spread the word" is a must have.

It's on every post as a clickable graphic entitled "Email".

Short of having it as a huge flashing pop up in gaudy fluorescent colours, I'm not sure how much more prominent I could make it.

Just because it´s never being used on your very own forum, does not mean it does not work.
It is working fine at other websites.
