New Aircraft Pilot Forums

Great start.

My initial impressions:
I liked the landing (home) page.
The info about the site is great but it was too long. All the info about “how to use xenforo” should be put on a secondary page.

Ie this info
656A0B72-2D7C-4097-8251-91854E1EF7E1.webp

The number of forums is a bit excessive, often less is more to start. Lots of scattered posts feels empty. Try 7 forums and add more if traffic dictates it.

Good luck !

thank you for the feedback CFMack and Digital Doctor. :)

CFMack - I added html code in the node description to display an image. (y)

This website was inspired by my son who has become a Second Officer (pilot) for Cathay Pacific at the age of 24. :)

Aircraft Pilot Forums
Welcome :) Just a couple of things that caught my attention...
  • The site is accessible by both "https://www.aircraftpilot.com.au/" and "https://aircraftpilot.com.au/" -- You'll want to chose one or the other (either with the "www." or without it) and then use a .htaccess rule to redirect to your preference. From an aesthetic point of view, either one is fine (I personally prefer the shorter URLs without the "www" prefix but you'll find just as many who prefer to have it present) but from a technical point of view it is better to enforce one or the other so that the search engines have only one canonical URL for your content and, even at the XF level, so that the 'out-of-the-box' cookies don't get confused (for example, log into your site using the "www." prefix, make sure you're logged in, then load the same page again without the "www." prefix, you'll likely now show as being logged out). Don't forget to also make sure that the URL in the XF control panel matches your preference (you likely have it with the "www." right now so if you choose to not use the prefix then just remember to update the control panel also). Looks like you already have a redirect in place to force "http" to "https" so it's just a matter of choosing www or no www.
  • The shadow on the front page YouTube videos is a nice touch.
  • As Digital Doctor said, the user guide looks great.
Looks great. How did you get those images in your node list?
It took me a bit to figure out which images you were referring to.... on my desktop Chrome the node descriptions don't show up inline but when I browsed on a tablet they displayed inline along with the images, then I realized on the desktop I needed to hover over the node name to see the description with the images.
Absolutely love your xenforo guide PDF !
Great idea.
Indeed! For the intended audience who may not be familiar with forums but are used to reading manuals the guide will likely be a great asset.

thank you for the feedback Kevin, much appreciated. (y)

tried to force www via htaccess but ran into a few problems - will investigate further.

cheers
