Is there a manual or tutorial of how to move a xenforo installation from one server to another?

In general though, it's a server level operation so your host will be the best place to obtain support and guidance.

Do you have cPanel? If you do some web hosts will do the move for you for free.

Copy the folders over, then install the sql database. Check permissions. It's probably a good opportunity to change the db password, as well. (updated in the config.php file also) Make sure email server settings are correct for the new server.

OK, i tested it. Unfortunately, I only have phpmyadmin to migrate the database and it produces a timeout/mysql error, when importing the database. Nevertheless, the database has been imported and all seems to work after having amended the crs/config.php to connect to the transferred database.

Any idea how I can avoid such errors? (I fear that there is missing something, but I haven't seen/noticed it yet.)

Try to avoid using PMA to export and import databases whenever possible - it isn't ideal and can result in corruption, or timeouts as you experienced.

Ideally use SSH, or if you don't have access to that, ask your host to.
