Any addon creator working on monitor private conversations addon?
I know there were some for xf1.5 however, now we are moving past
xf2.x and some of these addons are not catching up....

due to the nature of my future site, if I can not monitor conversations
effectively, then I am afraid I may not have to disable them altogether....

thanks

What does "monitor" entail?

If you want a full description, there are plugins for xf 1.5 you can look over.

The addon pretty much allows the forum admin to monitor private conversations, along
with doing keyword search looking for specific conversations. For me, it is just an added
task that I prefer not to do, however, without it, then I will simply disable all PMs.....

What is your meaning?

I respect your privacy, however, when you come onto my property,
then you give up those rights, as no one forces you to come onto my property...
If you are concerned about govt vs privacy, then give up all electronic devices,
your credit cards, and live 100% off the grid (which most can not do anyways...)

You also have no privacy on the internet, unless you are such a fabulous hacker
that can cover your tracks, then everything you do can, and will be traced back to you....
(even that porn site you visited last month...)

If you signup to my forum, then you give up privacy rights, no one forced
you to signup, and you can not claim ignorance for not reading our terms....

good luck...

No need to justify yourself aha

Just for your information : https://actualite.housseniawriting....ant-de-whatsapp-et-dautres-messageries/12685/

You are subject to the laws in force in the country where your forum server is located, your rules are only water.

I guess you better sue the company you work for...
I guarantee IT has access, and can read your emails....

You are confusing "monitoring" with what a person or company does
with private information. if a person/company shares your private info,
then you may have a legal argument to sue that person/company....

I am not concerned....
one little bit....

but thanks...

monitor private conversations

I had written a post here earlier and then deleted it as not to stir up controversy, by I not only agree with @Thibeault, I think it is highly unethical to monitor "private conversations", and if you are going to do so, you should state it on your forum. Otherwise you are misleading your members. You can take your justification about your property and rules and shove it, because you are wrong here. By the nature of them, they are supposed to be private. Otherwise, call them "Semi-private, but I may check up on you conversations". I know a forum owner that lost most of his active members when it was found out he had been monitoring their "private messages." Members were furious, and they had every right to be so.

You have to be careful about installing PM readers. Some countries have strtict privacy laws. You’re also leaving a potential back door for a hacker to compromise your PM system.

I wouldn't think this is necessarily the place for a debate (maybe the Resource Discussion, instead of Resource Request? I'm still newish here). However, if it's the legality you're concerned with, bear in mind that there is sometimes a burden of responsibility on the owner of a website, its host, or the ISP when users of the site are breaking the law.

Based on the username usAdultAds, the first thing that comes to mind is that there are certain illicit materials that he would want to ensure his forum is not being used to distribute behind the scenes. In this instance, and for others who want or need such an add-on, it's likely as much and more of a legal necessity to prevent such illicit activity as it is to respect privacy. That's why it was stated earlier in the thread that if this feature is not possible, the only viable alternative for him is to disable private conversations entirely.

If these massages are to be monitored, then don't call them Private Conversations and be up front with that fact with the members. And, if someone is that worried about illicit activity in Private Conversations, then Private Messaging should should be disabled and all forum communication should be public. You don't lead members to think their conversations are private and then monitor those conversations; it really doesn't matter what the content of the forum is. It is unethical.
