Microsoft acquries Github

inb4 people who grew up with the anti-FOSS Microsoft come in here saying it's the end times.

I'm going to give MS the benefit of the doubt since they've been good to the FOSS community lately, with the Linux Subsystem and VSCode. Yeah, imagine that, a MS product with proper change logs where they listen to feedback, VSCode is great!

Microsoft are doing a lot of things better than even Apple right now.

Guess who has support for important web APIs like push and notifications already, vs guess who is unlikely to have them for yet another year. I'm going to stop typing now. It might seem fairly minor but I'm so annoyed with Apple right now.

But hey, at least you have Animoji, and will be able to use them in Facetime ;)

Then again that’s browser based and not OS based. I’ll take no ServiceWorker Push support in Safari over the pile of garbage that is Windows 10 😛

In fact, I’ll even go so far as to say I want notification syncing between iOS and macOS more than I do Push.

What I did was sign up for Push for YT videos in Chrome, then when I get a notif I just open YT in Safari. Soblem Prolved.

Besides, Apple has never announced web standards support in Safari in a keynote, have they? Besides Apple Pay for Web, but that’s different. I don’t know if anyone has installed the beta and checked for Push support yet.

Mildly off topic but you started it, ya wee cabbage 😛

And there's a long list of other small computing companies Microsoft simply destroyed. I can even recall a tiny pen-computer company that was strung along into delaying going live with the promise of co-operation, then with it's standard Modus Operandi Microsoft stole the research seen under non-disclosure agreements.

And MS had to pay over $9 billion in lawsuits just up to 2005. This is not the sterling mark of an ethical company.

Good news is there are plenty of alternatives: GitLab, BitBucket and others. Both GitLab and BitBucket offer unlimited private repositories, which is something GitHub charges for.

Although not a developer, glancing at emails there was one, surprisingly enough about changing subscription settings, from OSDN, and I feel I should put in a good word for them.

OSDN is a free-of-charge service for open source software developers. We offer SVN/Git/Mercurial/Bazaar/CVS repository, mailing list, bug tracking system, bulletin board and forum, web site hosting, release file download service, permanent file archive, complete backup, shell environment and environment that allows easy and integral projects management of these services run on web.

The email also has: However, on the contrary, SourceForge.net has continued to cause system malfunctions over the pastfew months, and there even seemed to have been an incident that they lostcode repositories.

But I don't know how accurate this is. I can't use SourceForge since they went over to a new utterly hideous even for Fat Slab Style website.
