Closed Metadata widget not available

Automated triage: Awaiting feedback

We need a little more detail to look into this. This panel is built from metadata read during upload, and that depends heavily on the file type, so we need to know what kind of image it was and how it was uploaded.

  • What file type is the image that shows no metadata (JPEG, PNG, WebP or GIF)? Do the images that do show metadata have a different type?
  • Did you upload the image directly through the media gallery's upload form, or attach it to a forum post that was then mirrored into the gallery?
  • If it is a JPEG, does it still contain camera EXIF data (for example, was it exported or downloaded from a site that strips metadata)?

This is an automated assessment. A member of staff may review and update it.

[*]What file type is the image that shows no metadata (JPEG, PNG, WebP or GIF)? Do the images that do show metadata have a different type?
I have detected that the WebP images do not show metadata. The same image converted to JPG does show them; I ran a test on this same website at these links:
WEBP: https://xenforo.com/community/media/test.5500/
JPG: https://xenforo.com/community/media/test-jpg.5519/

[*]Did you upload the image directly through the media gallery's upload form, or attach it to a forum post that was then mirrored into the gallery?
I have experienced the issue on my website in both ways: by uploading the file directly to XFMG and also using the mirror option. I think the problem must be related to the format rather than the method used to upload the file.

[*]If it is a JPEG, does it still contain camera EXIF data (for example, was it exported or downloaded from a site that strips metadata)?
I have only experienced the error with photos downloaded from the internet; I haven't tried using photos from my camera with all the EXIF data. Either way, even if the photo is from the internet, the metadata widget should still be displayed showing the file name, size, and dimensions, which isn't happening.

This is the expected behaviour. WebP images do not contain any metadata to display. JPEG images nearly always will, and usually way more beyond filename, size and dimensions. Some other types of image may contain metadata but usually it's just JPEG.

The metadata isn't generated by us. It's retrieved from whatever is stored inside the image format itself.

If the metadata block is not showing it just means "this image does not contain any metadata" and therefore there isn't a block of information we can display because there isn't any.

I think it should reflect the data we retrieve from the image metadata. WebP contains no such metadata. Hence the metadata block isn't displayed.

Valid suggestion if you want to post it but it isn't a bug and we're not planning changes as a result of this thread.
