I have a need for a replacement for Zoom actually so I’m wondering exactly how far this function can be stretched, while understanding the limitations (and what might be able to be done to reduce such limitations). Can you elaborate?
Also, are there any limitations to either the video calling feature on mobile?
For that matter, are there limitations on how the messenger (chat) part works on mobile? Mainly from a UI perspective.
That is a fair question. I would not currently market Messenger as a full Zoom replacement because the calling system is browser-to-browser WebRTC mesh, so it is best suited to private and smaller group calls rather than large conferences.
Mobile calling and chat are both supported, although things like background video, screen sharing and larger calls can still depend on the phone and browser being used. The chat UI itself is fully responsive and designed to work properly on mobile.
There is also plenty more planned, including improved Calls 2.0 features, send later/reminders, richer shared content, messaging power tools, trust and safety features, bots/integrations, localisation and accessibility improvements.
Those features are planned to roll out progressively throughout the year though, not as one giant batch update.
