Merge SQL Databases?

So a moderator deleted a thread with a project yesterday that involved 4 years work.
He blamed me of course, but I checked the moderator logs and he did it.
I had the SQL database backed up under another name (I use the date in the filename) on our server on Knownhost.

Question: I want to get the project back. Is there a way to MERGE the two databases, and if I do, will that restore the information?

Probably best bet is to just search through the backup and find the thread and just copy and paste the content into a new thread, to avoid any issues.
