Hello,
there is a system that allows PGP encryption of web sent emails.
So you could encrypt all mails sent by Xenforo, which would of course increase security.
Have a look here.
Maybe it would be possible to integrate the whole thing in such a way that every user can deposit his key and receive encrypted e-mails.
