Looking For An Offshore VPS Under $40 a Month

Because an underlying flaw in vbulletin is clearly the fault of the server opperating system yea?

Don't worry, I won't sue you, i'll even put it in writing, if its so insecure your 8 year old neice could do it, whats the problem?

Balls in your court...
You guys are both wrong. You haven't seen optimal security until you run Windows. Period. :cautious:

For those who really want to try un-managed hosting and maybe save themselves some money, not having to pay for the extra Cpanel or DirectAdmin or other 3rd party software, but have little knowledge or experience with installing software and configuring things manually...

I found this free little baby and it works very well

http://tuxlite.com/

Thought I would share.

Installs

Nginx or Apache (your pick)
PHP5
MySQL
Varnish
PhPmyAdmin

@T8L

All this talk of cPanels got me twitchy, I went ahead and installed ISPConfig 3 on my server, it was a bit tricky getting it installed but I do have to admit that I don't think I'll be getting rid of it now.

I used this guide to get it set up, guide really starts from about page 3 or 4 as everything up to that point is just getting Ubuntu installed. :)

Not at this time.

But the last time I played with it I found it suitable for the noobs who maybe in a hurry and need an easy & quick fix.

But nothing can substitute the value of knowledge and security from actually setting up your own server.

Tuxlite made for a quick cheat.

I was doing The Perfect server ISPConfig 3 guide but got stuck on something basic. Since I screwed up on tuxlite just now I'm gonna that Perfect Server Guide for 10.04 ISPConfig 3 again. Each time I screw up I learn something new. Eventually I'll get it right.

Feel free to fire me questions.

Protip if you see any commands where they say to edit a file using the 'vi' command, replace the 'vi' with 'nano' instead it's so much easier.

Thanks! Yeah I've been using nano. I hate vi. My last post in this thread is where I had gotten stuck on the Perfect Server guide: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=11785084 Someone finally answered it though.

It's this hosts name stuff that's gotten me stuck.

When I type in hostname press enter in command line, shouldn't only my host name show up?

for example

Command: hostname
= vmmember2050

Because the example that is showing up on The Perfect Server guide is server1.example.com

What's the output of

Code:
hostname -f
?

My hostname is
Code:
kicks

My Fully Qualified Domain Name is
Code:
kicks.the-sps.org

What they're asking for is your FQDN generally anyway.

when I type both hostname and hostname -f in command line I get something like vmmember250 which is also my host name in the vps control panel.

I have 1 dedicated IP but doesn't say what the domain name is.

When I create a support ticket (which I haven't yet) the options say Related Service: vps.server.com (active)

Would vps.server.com be what they want in that guide?
